Alice Marshall

University of Derby

After an extensive performance career with choreographers such as Paul Bloom, Katie Green and Cathy Seago, Alice went on to form Adaire to Dance – a professional performance company that demonstrates the diversity of Contemporary Dance. Her work with her own company concentrates on accessible dance and combining other art forms with the movement created. Often a collaboration with Illuminos is at the centre of her work.

As an Academic Alice has worked for University’s with strong Dance. This knowledge gained from a variety of Institutions is what helped build the BA and MA programmes at the University of Derby, which she now leads.

Rhys Davies

De Montfort University

I’m a filmmaker who combines directing, writing and producing with educating the next generation of film makers. My film credits include director of three feature films, assistant director of an Oscar nominated short film, and writer for American Television.

Academic highlights include creation and validation of MA International Film Production alongside Creative Media Skills at Pinewood, lead on Transnational Filmmaking: Recording of Cultural Identities through Oral Histories project with London School of Public Relations Jakarta, and co-investigator of the Sustainable Development Goals Film Festival – now in its fourth year.

Research interests include indigenous folk horror, transnational filmmaking, and the importance of documentaries in a post truth world.

Phil Basi

University of Derby

Phil Basi is a multi-award-winning Series Producer / Director with the benefit of over thirty years of music, arts, documentary, factual, and entertainment production. Having worked for both the ITV & the BBC, two of the UK major broadcasters, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his position as Programme Leader of Media Production at the University Of Derby. Being responsible for thousands of hours of TV over his career he still states his highlight is being responsible for the live broadcast of Mother Teresa’s funeral from India back to the UK.

Prof Jason Lee

De Montfort University

Prof Lee is the Company Director for Evolution film.

Evolution Film was established in 2022 to Examine and Address Inequality in the Film, Television and Creative Industries. The project forms part of the British Academy Innovation Fellowship between Prof CJP Lee, De Montfort University, and Jones Bamber Productions Ltd. We are now an organisation with organically grown 550+ members across 6 continents.

To date, there collection of work includes:

Ryan Can’t Read (Rhys Chapman, 2023), Pawen (Richard Elson, 2023) and Up and Down (Richard Elson, 2024).
