Dr Ben Harbisher

Ben Harbisher is an Associate Professor in Media Production at Coventry University. He has been published in Critical Discourse Studies (2016), Surveillance and Society (2015), Journalism, Power and Investigation (2019), and Surveillance in Action (2018). Andrew Trigg

Andrew Trigg is a multi-talented filmmaker who has made dramatic films and documentary-style films for television channels, corporations, aid projects and governmental clients in the UK, USA, Australia and Indonesia. He aims to tell world-class stories that engage audiences, explain issues and inspire positive action. Andrew is currently working on “Getting Better All The Time”, a documentary film about stroke recovery that he shot in the UK throughout 2017 and that he is now editing for a UK release. Andrew was educated at Imperial College London and the University of Warwick. He trained in filmmaking at Sydney Film School, and has worked as director, cinematographer and editor on projects for organisations as diverse as NET TV, The Indonesia Channel, USAID, Chemonics, Accor Hospitality, Clean Up Indonesia, UNICEF, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Yamaha Musical Instruments, Ephindo Energy, Risco Energy, Prime Plaza Hotels and Resorts and Coca-Cola. Andrew is also an accomplished theatre director and actor, and he teaches Theatre Directing as well as TV, Film and Video production at the London School of Public Relations.

Denny Chrisna

Denny’s films have screened at international festivals including JAFF, Balinale and CINECAFEST. He won the Central American Short Film Festival Award for Best Cinematography for the 2016 Music Video Story About the Tree. Denny studied cinematography at the Indonesian Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta for his Master Degree. Prior to this, he studied Film and Television for four years at the same University to get his bachelor, and has a background in photography, painting and drawing. Born and grow in Bali Island made him very rich in culture, experi¬ences and locations, naturally bringing him to fulfil his passion for cinematography and storytelling. Denny is excited to collaborate with visionary filmmakers, creat¬ing images that serve the story and resonate with audiences. The narratives that he is drawn to centre on human experience, often demanding visceral, textured images full of feeling, which give an audience the emotional experience of the character’s world. He is a member of the KFDB (Bali Legal Film Commission by Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy).

Dr Taufan Teguh Akbari

Taufan Teguh Akbari, Ph.D. is a lecturer, writer, edufluencer, and expert in leadership and research. Currently, Taufan works as a permanent lecturer and serves as Vice Rector 3 (Student Affairs), Head of Leadership Centre, Head of SDGs Centre, Head of SPR Centre for China - Indonesian Studies, Head of Alumni Relations & President of LSPR Communication and Business Institute Alumni Association. His areas of research are related to leadership, organizational communication, entrepreneurship, interpersonal communication, youth leadership, personality development, and social empowerment. In 2017, he built a foundation called Millennial Berdaya Nusantara and the Rumah Millennials community that connects impactful Indonesian youth.

Dr Paul Smith

Paul Smith is currently course leader for the BA (Hons) Filmmaking course at Nottingham Trent University University. Paul has worked for over 10 years in the television and film industry, in a variety of production roles. Production roles have taken the form of post-production in children’s television, camera (first cut, ITV) directing and cinematography roles for factual productions (BBC, RSA Films), and commercial based productions. More recently Paul has acted as producer and director on a variety of short films, which have been shown at international film festivals (Bilbao, Cannes, Madrid, Nottingham – Bang, Exposures). Additionally, Paul is an external examiner for Pearson’s Creative Media Production Higher National (HN) programme, International Higher National Programme and an EE for the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) (BA (Hons) Post Production Film and TV and BA (Hons) Independent Filmmaking). 19 years of experience working in an FE and HE environment. Paul has taught at level 2 to 6, on BTEC vocational programmes, HND, Foundation Degrees, BA (Hons) and BSC (Hons) in film and television production. Vocationally focused, Paul has taught and instructed undergraduate students digital editing packages and filming techniques of multi-camera and single camera productions. Paul’s current research interests focus on: • Filmmaking from within. • Poverty filmmaking. • Film and television industry collaborations within HE. • Living Theory. • Critical Reflection – the impact of the Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ).

Agata Lulkowska

Agata Lulkowska is an interdisciplinary Art/Practice-based researcher with a background in photography and multimedia arts. Co-founder and Director of the Communities & Communication - International Conference and Festival, Managing Editor at the International Journal of Creative Media Research, Editorial board member at Media Practice and Education, and former Artistic Director and Head of Programming at the Discovering Latin America Film Festival. Recipient of the International Award for Excellence for The Journal of Communication and Media Studies (June 2020). Forthcoming Publication: Practice-based Research for Filmmakers, Routledge, 2023. Agata is actively engaged in creating a support system for art/practice-based researchers. My recent research film, 'The voice of Sierra Nevada', was recently shortlisted for the prestigious AHRC Research in Film Awards, and has won the Excellence Award at Docs Without Borders Film Festival.

Rhys Davies

Rhys Davies is a Senior Lecturer in Film at De Montfort University, Rhys Davies has over 15 years’ experience as a filmmaker, with theatrical release and worldwide distribution of his films. He was an Assistant Director on two Oscar long-listed short films, and writer forBAFTA winning Sleepydog Productions for their slate of productions for the North American television market. His practice-based research includes sustainability in filmmaking, 360-degree filmmaking to enhance immersion in the horror film narrative, and the importance of documentaries to Sustainable Development Goals in a post truth world. His current research focus is on filmmaking without borders, with a specific focus on oral histories, and a PhD which examines the adaptation of folk tales into indigenous horror films.

Sanna Wicks comes from a background in factual television and media production, both as a director and editor, and now works as Course Director for BA Film Production as Coventry University.

Richard Irwin

Richard Irwin lives in a rural Derbyshire village and is a practicing digital artist and wildlife photographer who has extensive experience working in both education and nature conservation in the UK. He is currently employed as a full time Lecturer in Digital Media at Nottingham College in England, where he specialises in teaching digital film, animation, and games media across a number of Higher Education degree courses. Before working in the education sector, Richard was employed as a Countryside Ranger in the English countryside where his specialist knowledge of natural history helped to preserve and protect nature reserves and wildlife. Richard’s passions are film making and photography and all forms of digital media.

Janice has worked in the independent production sector making observational documentaries for BBC, ITV and Channel 4. She is now Associate Head of School for Quality and Accreditation in the School of Media and Performing Arts at Coventry University.

Guidelines

Submissions should be posted online via Vimeo/Youtube or similar, and adhere to the following technical specifications.

By submitting content for this event you grant the organisers the right to host your work on the film festival’s YouTube channel.

Theme:
One of the U.N Sustainable Development Goals, visit link for more information.
Format:
Micro documentary (factual, participatory, expository, poetic), short film, Public Service Announcement, dramatisation, animation, stills (submitted as a timeline), timelapse.
Running Time:
3 to 15 min. maximum including titles and credits.
Copyright:
Audio, images, likeness rights and location permissions must be cleared prior to submission.
